See how these amazing service dogs assist their people and how you can get involved. A Q & A session will follow.

Come connect with nature and meet some birds of prey as Nature’s Educators tell their personal stories and discuss the important role the predators play in Colorado’s ecosystem. A Q & A session will follow.

11:45AM: Celebrity Pet Expert Harrison Forbes Answers your Pet-Related Questions
Celebrity Pet Expert Harrison Forbes is attending the expo as part of the Toyota Pet Safety Tour. Forbes’ 20 year career as a dog trainer, animal behaviorist and best-selling author has propelled him into the spotlight as a highly sought-after pet expert. His extensive career in dog training has propelled Forbes into becoming the “go-to” guy for national pet stories, appearing on “Larry King Live” discussing the Michael Vick case, as the resident pet expert on “Live with Regis and Kelly,” and appearing on the Fox News Network, CNN, CBS “The Early Show,” and “The Today Show” on NBC. Having been involved in the training and importing of over 700 police service dogs, Harrison has also been called upon to train dogs for films in Hollywood, including Francis Ford Coppola’s film “The Rainmaker.” He’ll be hosting a pet Q & A session, so bring your pet-related concerns and ask away!

12:45PM: The Myths Surrounding Breed-Specific Legislation by Creative Acres
Breed-specific legislation (BSL) refers to laws that target dogs based on how they look rather than their actions. Hundreds of U.S. cities have already enacted BSL, and more cities adopt it every year. Many cities and counties—plus Marine Corps and Army bases—have banned select breeds altogether. Currently, BSL most often focuses on Pit Bull types (dogs that have “Pit Bull characteristics”), but some cities also target Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinchers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers, Mastiffs, Dalmatians, Chow Chows, other large breeds and mixes of the targeted breeds. Local animal advocate Maxine Mager, from Creative Acres, will discuss BSL why BSL doesn’t work and how you can help prevent breed discrimination.

1:15PM: The “Knows” of Canine Rehab by Canine Rehabilitation & Conditioning Group
At CCRG, they believe that you can enhance and/or improve your dog’s life and physical abilities through exercise, recreation, and rehabilitation. In addition, learn how acupuncture, Chinese and western herbals and the importance of nutrition and supplements can help your dog live a longer and fuller life!

1:45PM: Reptiles as Pets by Scales ‘N’ Tails

2:15PM: Positive Dog Training by Wag & Train
Let the trainers from Wag & Train illustrate how you can motivate your dog to want to learn by communicating in their language! Using a combination of visual and verbal cues, and treats to reward and motivate, the emphasis is on the positive, and the goal is to teach each OWNER how to train their dog to listen on the first command – not the fourth!

2:45PM: Talent Contest Animals Got Talent! Pet Talent Show
Does your pet have an amazing talent? Here’s your chance to show it off! Contest will consist of one category: Best Trick. Immediately following the competition winners will be determined by audience applause as assessed by Denver Pet Expo staff. To enter, bring your pet to the main stage at 2:30PM (you’ll see signage directing you where to go once you arrive at the stage) and be ready to dance, jump, sing, or whatever your specialty may be!

3:15PM: Easy Tricks for Any Pooch by Bark Busters
Teaching your dog simple tricks can not only help stimulate your dog’s brain, but improve communication skills with your dog - plus dogs love to learn! And who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, anyway? Not us! Learn three easy tricks that anyone can teach their pooch at home.

4:15PM: CPR and First Aid by VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital

Knowing what to do in the initial moments of a crisis can be critical to your pet’s life.  In the event that a dog is not breathing, CPR, also known as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and mouth-to-snout resuscitation, can be used to save your pet’s life and stabilize them until you can reach help. You also need to be able to access their vitals.  Join us for a canine CPR and Vitals discussion with a Q & A session to follow.

10:10AM: Agility Demonstrations Presented by All Dogs Training
Agility is a sport that appeals to all dog lovers - from junior handlers to senior citizens. Agility is designed to demonstrate a dog’s ability and drive to work with it’s handler in a variety of situations.  All Dogs Training will be doing Agility demos along with some rally work. Information regarding how to get started in agility, a list of local agility clubs and a Q & A session will follow the demonstration.

11:00AM: Basic Obedience Training by Bark Busters
Are you wondering how other people have such well-behaved dogs? Are you sick of being dragged down the street behind a leash?  Do you avoid taking your pup on walks because they’re completely out of control?  Learn some quick and easy tips to turn those unwanted behaviors around and help create a pup that can be reliably trusted on-lead and off.  Bark Busters prides themselves on training the “un-trainable” dogs.

12:00PM: Obedience Training by Sit Means Sit Dog Training
Sit Means Sit Dog Training will go through the basics of obedience training.  Sit Means Sit specializes in off-leash obedience.  They will be demonstrating basic to advance obedience, including a demonstration of some protection training (bite work).  Sit Means Sit prides itself on its dogs working around severe distractions.

2:00PM: Nosework by Zinn Dog Training K9 Nose Work Center
The art and practice of nose work has now reached dogs of all shapes and sizes and has made basic search dog skills available to companion dogs, creating a new urban sport arena for dog enthusiasts. Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt.  The sport of canine nose work is designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise.  It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy!

5:00PM: Pet Costume Contest
Show off your pet dressed in their best costume for the super popular Pet Costume Contest! Each pet must wear a costume during the competition period to be eligible. Winners will be determined by audience applause as assessed by the pet expo staff. To enter, bring your pet to the activity course at 4:45PM (you’ll see signage directing you where to go once you arrive at the activity course).

FLYBALL COURSE

Flyball presented by Rocky Mountain Flyball
Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. Flyball provides an entertaining and active way to interact with one’s dog and other dog enthusiasts in an environment that is fun while allowing the dogs exercise and enjoyment. Rocky Mountain Flyball believes that any dog, no matter the breed or skill should be allowed to run.  Regardless of club affiliation, skill level or breed, all dogs are welcome to join them to learn the sport of flyball.
